Melissa McKeown is the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Shelter of Union County.  The Community Shelter provides emergency shelter, food, and rehousing.  In 2020, as the covid pandemic materialized, Melissa was responsible for the acquisition and management of over $2 million in federal relief funds to quickly implement shelter, food, housing, and eviction prevention services.   Melissa serves on the board of the NC Coalition to End Homelessness and Thrive Union. She is a subject matter expert on both sheltered and unsheltered homeless services including the shelter’s highly successful rapid rehousing program.  She is involved in multiple state level committees that implement best practices for HUD funded projects. Melissa is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Monroe.
